CB&I has designed and managed some of the world's largest onshore and offshore pipeline projects. With more than half-century of pipeline experience to our credit, we've earned respect for our ability to deliver successful pipeline projects even in the most challenging locations.
We've designed pipelines for transporting crude oil, natural gas, refined petroleum products, LPG, LNG, NGL, condensates, water, slurries and various chemicals – both in single-phase and multiphase flow. These pipelines have ranged in diameter from 3 inches (75 millimeters) to 5 feet (1500 millimeters).
CB&I’s worldwide track record includes extensive practice in Africa, the Middle East, Russia, FSU, and the Caspian and Black Sea regions. In the last 10 years CB&I has been involved in concepts, FEED efforts and detailed engineering of pipelines totaling 30,000 km. In addition, we have executed contracts for more than 20 projects leading to the safe and timely installation of more than 10,000 km of pipelines, where our scope included engineering, procurement, construction management and support services.
Designing complete pipeline systems. Our
comprehensive services for pipeline systems include conceptual and field development studies, project site and cost evaluations, front-end engineering design, engineering, detailed design, procurement, and construction management and commissioning.
In addition to designing pipelines, we provide complete design-build services for associated facilities such as compression and pumping stations, pig traps, slug catchers, valve stations, terminals and reception facilities.
We have the in-house engineering and project management expertise to meet any pipeline challenge. We've helped build pipelines that traversed rugged mountains, deserts, jungles, snowfields and rough seas.
Using advanced technologies. Our project teams use the best project management methodologies and tools available to deliver reliable, cost-effective results. We employ more than 100 software programs for effective risk and safety assessment, engineering and design, project and materials management, scheduling and cost controls. We've received accolades for our innovative application of geographic information system (GIS)
software to analyze a variety of geotechnical, environmental, archaeological and ecological data for pipeline route engineering.
CB&I’s areas of technical expertise include:
- Geohazard and seismic design
- Crossing design, including horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and microtunneling
- Risk assessment and safety analysis
- RAM and modularization studies
- Flow assurance analysis both under steady state and transient conditions (including multi-phase, multi-product, non-Newtonian and high temperature/high pressure fluids)
- Limit state design
- Materials and welding
- SCADA and telecommunications
CB&I’s involvement in the IPLOCA Pipeline Cost Reduction Research and Development Program and our extensive in-house library of benchmark cost data for various pipeline and process facilities support our value engineering process and ensure the most cost effective pipeline design.
The quality of the work performed by CB&I is widely recognized by our international clients, whose projects benefit from the high level of technical expertise and total commitment of our managers, engineers and technicians. CB&I constantly seeks better solutions and technical innovations to meet and often exceed the client’s requirements, while achieving significant CAPEX and operational cost savings.
But technical expertise alone does not guarantee success. The planning and execution of a pipeline project requires extensive knowledge of numerous geographical, political, regulatory, social and environmental issues. With offices worldwide, we have people in every major market who can provide localized expertise. They possess the specialized knowledge and skills needed to work effectively with land-owners, local authorities and environmental agencies.
