CB&I PSA Technology

Building on a track record of full EPFC of more than 100 Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) units since 1969, CB&I is your full-range supplier of adsorption-based gas separation plants.  Combining the PSA technology portfolios of Howe-Baker Engineers and H2Gen Innovations, Inc., CB&I has developed the world’s only fast-cycle, compact PSA technology that delivers:

  • Hydrogen purity to customer specifications, up to and including 99.9999%+ applications for critical service in petrochemical and semiconductor applications
  • Small footprint and small stored flammable gas volume
  • Reliable, redundant, fault-tolerant operation – Eliminates potential shutdowns caused by valve failure in traditional PSA units
  • Uniquely suited to stable performance with large daily temperature variations
  • The only world-class PSA that is modularized and delivered onsite ready for rapid commissioning

CB&I’s continuous improvement philosophy is backed by our ongoing program of adsorbent characterization, separation design and validation at our Technology Development Center.  CB&I cyclic adsorption plants are engineered using the best adsorbent technologies from leaders in the fields of zeolites, activated carbons, silica gels and aluminas – delivering specifically-tailored, optimum solutions to each customer separation.  CB&I can also engineer cyclic separations using your proprietary adsorbents and/or pilot plant data, improving performance while reducing risk and investment cost.

CB&I MARS® Gas Recovery Plants

CB&I’s long-standing capabilities in gas processing and hydrogen generation uniquely prepare us to offer turnkey gas recovery plants, even at small flow rates. CB&I systems include gas compression, pre-treatment, heat exchange using Lummus HELIXCHANGER® technology, and CB&I PSA, alone or in combination with other separation technologies to address customer challenges in:

  • Debottlenecking and hydrogen optimization
  • Flared process gas
  • Vent streams in petrochemical and refining unit operations
  • Dilute streams bearing noble gases
  • Hydrogen from syngas

The results are cost savings, lower energy requirements and a cleaner environment – with leadtimes that are the fastest in the industry.

  • Complete turnkey modular system – delivered to site by sea, road or air
  • Small footprint
  • Distributed gas separation (multiple units at key process facilities) can dramatically reduce piping and structural EPC costs compared with traditional, centralized gas separation
  • Turnkey solution from design through commissioning, including integration into existing process systems

With a total installed base of more than 100 PSA systems and hundreds of modular hydrogen plants, CB&I has the experience and capabilities to design and deliver a reliable gas recovery solution that offers substantial savings and outstanding performance.
