In January 2007, CB&I was awarded a contract by PERU LNG S.R.L. for the engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning of a natural gas liquefaction plant in Pampa Melchorita, Peru, located about 170 kilometers south of Lima.
CB&I's work scope includes the entire liquefaction plant, with a designed production capacity of 4.45 million tons per year of LNG. The project encompasses treatment of the inlet gas, liquefaction, two 130,000 m3 LNG tanks, ship loading facilities, power generation, plant utilities, and related ancillary buildings and systems. CB&I is also responsible for providing the permanent community and facilities on site. This includes housing accommodations, recreation facilities, and permanent community buildings. The project was completed in 2010.
The PERU LNG Export Project is not only the largest industrial project ever to be undertaken in Peru, but it is also South America's first baseload LNG export facility.
